The Trainers:

Denis Kelly
Styles: MMA & BJJ (Black Belt)

Denis began training Karate at the age of 14 as a means of self defence while living in Ireland. Later he moved onto Muay Thai and Grappling whilst living in the UK. To gain a broader knowledge of grappling techniques he spent several months in the USA and Brazil training at famous academies such as Brazilian Top Team. Denis also spent time training at world class kickboxing gyms in Holland and Thailand. Denis has competed and won State and National titles including Victoria MMA Champion, 3 gold medals in the Pan Pacific BJJ championships 2009, Australia Cup Freestyle wrestling silver medalist, English Sambo Wrestling Champion 2005, European BJJ Blue belt Champion 2004, KSBO amateur MMA silver medalist 2004, Southern area Jiu-Jitsu Kumite Champion 2004, 16 Professional Mixed Martial Arts Fights in events such as Cage Rage (UK), King of the Cage and CFC (Aus) shown on Fox Sports Australia as well as competing in over 100 competition matches in Jiu-Jitsu, Submission wrestling, amateur MMA, judo & Muay Thai. Last year Denis was awarded his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt by Carlson Gracie Jnr whilst back in London training where it all started for him, the Carlson Gracie London gym. There are not many BJJ/MMA instructors in Australia with this kind of experience, and this shines through in his coaching and teaching.

Phillip Lai
Styles: Muay Thai
Specialties: Muay Thai & Boxing

As with most people Phil started his martial arts career training in the traditional art of Taekwondo. After training for a number of years he made the transition over to Muay Thai. It was during this period where he trained nder some of Melbournes’ top Muay Thai coaches. Phil’s thirst for knowledge led him to a number of training trips to Thailand. Most recently being at Kiatphontip Gym, where he spent 3 months training and fighting. Phil’s ourneys have also taken him to Japan where he lived and trained for a month, at world class gyms like Yuki Nakais Paraestra, Real Japan Wrestling Tokyo, and Total Kombat gym in Yokosuka.

Phil is also a qualified personal trainer and also has a level 1 certificate in CrossFit. Phil’s true passion lies in strength and conditioning and getting our fighters and clients in the best shape of their lives.

Phil has fought professionally in Thailand, New Zealand, and all over Australia. A couple of years ago Phil fought for a WKA Australian Muay Thai and WMC State Muay Thai title. To date Phil has had 11 Muay Thai fights and 3 MMA fights, and a countless number of submission grappling competitions all over Australia.

Phil was also recently awarded his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Purple Belt by Denis Kelly.
